This image was an interesting experiment, and I'm still not sure if I like the results. For the first time, I got out two mounts and shot this target with two scopes simultaneously over two nights. One setup was the FRA-400 with an ASI2600MC camera shooting RGB data, and the other was the Esprit 100 with ASI294MM in BIN 1 mode for narrowband.

The target was dim, but showed up very faintly even in the RGB data of my bortle 9 skies.

I've attempted three processes here, one in RGB with the narrowband data (which was the intention from the start), one as narrowband data only (processed as HSO since it's mostly Ha data), and the third showing the wider field of view of the RGB only data.

The stars in the RGB version were extremely bright even with moderate stretching and in the final image I had to put the stars in at 80% opacity to keep them from overpowering the nebula. There's a combination of image scales being way off for each focal length, which meant with combining the two, the narrowband data had to be shrunk down about 50%. Might have been better to shoot the narrowband data Bin2 for a better match.

I've also had a process I use to get synthetic RGB stars from narrowband data, and it's funny to see how bad the narrowband star colors are compared to actual RGB stars.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
